How I Keep Blogging: Make it a Habit

I am 2 years or so into intermittent blogging, but the past few months have seen me engage more on my ‘key’ niche blog with frequent, sometimes daily posts.

I am far from being a pro-blogger, but I write about what I know and love. I’m also in full-time work, have many interests and a family. Ideas buzz around in my head, my blog feed-reader overflows at times, and I can feel overwhelmed at not grabbing ideas and putting together a response. The pressure builds, the fun factor diminishes, the guilt arrives!

Here are some tips, 5 of the best that work for me and have helped me on the blogging journey.

  • Find your best blog time and make an appointment with yourself to write. It could be first thing in the morning, or in the quiet of the evening. You will know.
  • Write every day till you establish a rhythm and find the posting frequency that works for you.
  • Don’t castigate yourself if you fall off the wagon, and no guilt. You want to love doing this, right?
  • The quick ‘snapshot’ post about you and your blogging is fascinating stuff. Post one of these a week. If you think no one is interested in this idea, think again, and watch Mena Trott on personal blogging. I posted on this yesterday.
  • Keep a notebook and pen with you at all times. Ideas will come. Jot them down.

Simple stuff, but it works for me. Hope it does for you too.

I would add one more: join a friendly support group … like Building a Better Blog. They know all about it, baby!
