Metablogging: surfing a trend wave

As a blogger, you know you’re in the middle of something big when every second site seems to be about blogging. Oscar Wilde, who seemed always to have something pithy to say about social behaviour, once noted that ‘a young woman needed to have something sensational to read on the train.’ He was referring to a diary.

Are we experiencing a return to journalling and writing? Did this human need to express feelings and ideas in words ever really go away? Is it just that the new technology is making it obvious, easier, and opening up new possibilities for expression? Yes, no, and yes.

We are surfing a wonderful trend wave right now. The more people write and communicate the better say I. I am, however, looking to more substantive blogs and fewer on the fine art and craft of blogging itself. Just do it.

Hi. You might find the work our class is doing with blogs interesting. Check us out.

I really like the title of your blog by the way.

Best,

I’m so with you! It can be time consuming — all this obsession with the blog itself, when the thing is what matters. (Whatever the thing is that you really do…)

Glad you’re back!
